Celebrating the Handmade.
We love handmade things because they illuminate the soul and the observation of the maker – they offer a view of the world. Inspired by the richness of artisan skills on a journey through Morocco 40 years ago, we opened a shop in Sheffield called "Bringing It All Back Home" full of wonderful handmade items we found in the bazaars of India and Afghanistan.
Years later the collection was packed into storage as we developed the Natural Bed Company but we continued travelling, collecting and selling on our website.
Earlier 2016 we decided to open up all the old tea chests and look afresh at those wonderful textiles from the seventies. They were even better than we remembered, we just had to get them out on show again - and we’d love you to see them and be inspired. Embroidered rugs from Iraq, tent bands used by kuchi nomads in Afghanistan, embroidered bed covers from the Thar desert in Rajasthan and much more.
Folk-art textiles, sculptures and carvings, tribal drawings, furniture, scarves, cushions, Cashmere Shawls; special congregations and the beautiful everyday. One of our favourite items is a water vessel from India made from wooden panels held together with diagonal brass bands.
Since then we've found a new permanent location which we've called the Silk Road Gallery at 364B Sharrow Vale Road, Sheffield.
Our opening times are Friday and Saturday 11.30- 4.30.
