Shibori Indigo Kantha Throw, Crab Nebula

A beautiful vintage kantha throw with woven coloured patterns & shibori tie dyed with indigo.

This tightly stitched vintage kantha has been tie dyed with indigo to created a striated & rippled pattern that looks like a detail of the night sky & a crab like nebula image.

The reverse has a similar pattern with wonderful green ghostly shapes against a dark indigo night sky.

Part of the attraction of vintage kanthas of this quality and age is that small areas of the outermost cotton have been worn away revealing the colours of inner layers - in the same way that artists sometimes scrape away outer layers of paint to reveal a previous layer.
