Beyond Kailash - Large Landscape Book
Through Western Tibet to Mt Kailash & Tsaparang.
I'm Peter Bennion (Mahaprasara), one of the directors of the Silk Road Gallery and in 2014 I travelled through Western Tibet to Mt Kailash & the ruins of the ancient Kingdom of Gu-ge. The photographs & commentary in this book are a record of that journey.
Gu-ge is where Atisha revived Buddhism in Tibet in the 11th Century. It is the location Tholing monastery & the deserted citadel of Tsaparang - places described by Lama Govinda in the Tibet travel classic "The Way of the White Clouds".
The Buddhist art at Tholing & Tsaparang was mostly destroyed in China's Cultural Revolution in the 1960's but this book describes encounters & the journey across Western Tibet, the pilgrimage around Mt Kailash & the remains of the temples of Gu-ge - it is a unique contemporary document of this remote part of Tibet.
I've published the contents, with some small variations, in different formats. This is the coffee table size book. I keep a small stock & they are available direct from me at the Silk Road Gallery - or from the publishers Blurb.
From Blurb you can also order a PDF.
When you buy direct from Silk Road Gallery you will get a signed copy at a discounted price plus 5 free postcards of images from Tibet or Ladakh (Little Tibet).
