Indian Painting of Two Hoopoo Birds

A beautiful painting of a pair of two hoopoo birds in the Indian miniature painting style.

Hoopoo birds are one of my favourite sights when we go to Ladakh in northern India. In this painting the birds are sitting on branches of a flowering tree with golden green leaves and pale pink flowers. They are facing in opposite directions. Their beautiful crests of black tipped feathers are fully extended in the typical Mohican crown that, along with the black and white wings, is the most recognisable feature of the hoopoo.

Urdu lettering top and bottom of the painting is set against a gold background.
