Carved wooden vintage Nethis from Nepal where they are used to churn butter or curd.
Nethis are sometimes also called Ghurras.
One end is tied to a post on the far side of the churning drum and the spindle of the churning paddle passes through the circular hole in the Nethi above the drum. A rope passes round the paddle spindle and is pulled back and forth by the operator to rotate the paddle. Over time the circular hole becomes elongated with wear.
One design has a knot in the carving, the other has an arrow shape.
Unique and wonderful decorative carved vintage wooden items. Mid 20th century or older.
