Vintage Indian Dowry box with Hinged Lid
An old Indian dowry box with several iron bands around the box in addition to a metal handle.
The box has a metal clasp and two long hinges which open one half of the top face of the box.
There are numerous geometric carved patterns around the sides of the box and circular patterns on the top.
Dowry is still part of the Indian wedding tradition and a dowry box like this would be used to keep jewellery and special embroidered fabrics.
