A black, silver, green and gold handwoven silk Pha Tung wallhanging from Laos.

A beautiful, long fine silk wallhanging with silver, pale green and old gold squares set inside a black background. 
Being woven in the shot silk technique the colours shift in tone as you view from different angles.

Hand woven and dyed with local natural dyes in the town of Luang Prabang in central Laos. Pha Tung are prayer flags woven for the Buddhist New Year. Many women in this region have a loom in the garden or work under a communal awning where they would weave the Pha Tung.
