Avalokiteshvara Buddha Statue
A bronze coloured Buddha statue of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.
This statue or rupa of Avalokiteshvara would make a fine Buddha for a shrine.
Avalokiteshvara means He who looks down on the world with compassion (and sees the suffering of beings). In Nepal, and most countries of the Buddhist Himalaya, Avalokiteshvara is known as Chenresig.
This version of Avalokiteshvara from Nepal has four arms; two are placed palms together holding a jewel - the Bodhicitta - in front of his chest. In another he is holding a mala or string of prayer beads; in the other a lotus.
The arms and breast are coloured gold; the eyes, lips and back of the crown, head and neck are painted; the limbs are bronzed.
