Bani das ki Bawari, Dausa, Rajasthan | Stepwell Photos
Photos of the repainted Bani das ki Bawari stepwell at Dausa, Rajasthan
We arrive at Bani Das ki Bawari stepwell in the village of Dausa expecting to see a crumbling old well, only to discover it's in the later stages of restoration. The walls have been covered in the traditional folk art paintings of Rajsthan. It's bright and cheerful and local women and children are gathered in the shade of the entrance.
The paintings - too bright and colourful at first sight when you're expecting an old stone well - are delightful and, in a naive idealised and sentimental style, true to the local culture.
Read our blog and commentary about the paintings at this stepwell.
There are five separate landscape format images available to buy: View of the Well; Women with Water Pots; Tiger and Villagers; Desert Couple; Blacksmiths.
(The thumbnail image is a portrait detail of the Tiger photo).
