Baoli wale Ganeshji, Datia | Stepwell Photos
A photo of the flooded Baoli Wale Ganeshji Stepwell at Datia, Madhya Pradesh
I think the soft colours and fluid reflection in the water make this photo look more like a painting.
This stepwell, which contains a shrine to Ganesh, was unusual in being full of water. In fact it was flooded and I had to wade through water to get to the shrine and take this photo. There were tiny fish in the water. I'm not sure what else.
There are at least two submerged levels which were hidden by the water. I love the pale colour of the stone and the reflections in the water. By contrast the Ganesh shrine at the back of the well (not shown in the photo) is painted in lurid shades of yellow and pink.
The well is located in a field near the large Datia hospital. It's actually easy to find but not visually obvious from a distance and our driver insisted it was elsewhere.
