Bhawaldi Baoli 2, Bundi, Rajasthan | Stepwell Photo

Regular price £25.00

A second photo of the L shaped Bhawaldi Baoli stepwell, one of the hidden gems of Bundi in Rajasthan.

One of our favourite stepwells in Bundi; the gate is locked but the keyholder is a friendly woman in the house opposite.
A fine carved stone Jain portico leads down wide steps to a platform where the walls are inset with unusual carved figures. There is a left turn to the steps that lead down to the well proper with sheer vertical pink stone sides. The submerged lower arch gives an indication of the real depth of this well.

The well is in the middle of town and surrounded by houses. The roof of the well is covered with translucent sheeting which dogs and monkeys play and fight on.

The image you will get is the taller one one which shows more sky.
