Bringing in the Goats at Hanupatta 2 | Photos of Ladakh
Late afternoon photo of goats being herded from the hills for the night at Hanupatta village.
The goats are kicking up dust in the late afternoon as they approach the safety of Hanupatta village in Ladakh. They'll be tightly packed into a compound for the night and safe from the foxes, wolves and maybe snow leopards that roam the mountains.
Village boys shepherd them on the hills during the day; it's now their responsibility to get them all back home.
Hanupatta is a delightful village in a gorge at the start of the classic trek to Padum. This photo was taken in 2008. A rough new road now cuts through the landscape making life better for the village but less attractive for trekkers!
