A photo showing the trees and shrubs growing in the nine-storey Neemrana Baori stepwell in Rajasthan

This magnificent baori is 9 storeys deep and the most spectacular in Rajasthan. Built somewhere between the 14th and 16th century, not much is known about its heritage though it’s close to the Neemrana fort, now a hotel, with allegedly a connecting tunnel.

Descending into Neemrana is the full-on stepwell experience, the ledges are crumbling and the bottom is an eery, damp, mosquito ridden place in need of de- littering. Not a place to linger but truly awesome

A couple of blocked small tunnels lead through to the bottom of the silted up well shaft.
