We seemed to be following endless country roads around the outskirts of south west Delhi before we found the octagonal Baoli Ghaus Ali Shah stepwell at Farukhnagar. But the search was worth the effort for the elegant shapes of the arched colonnades around the well.

A tea stall across the road revived us with some sweet chai. To get to the stepwell you have to find a tunnel that runs under the road. It's guarded by a bored policeman who seemed to enjoy our driver's company.
