Mandala painting in a stupa at Skurbuchan, Ladakh

Painted Mandala, Skurbuchan | Photos of Ladakh

Regular price £25.00

An old mandala painting inside a gateway stupa at Skurbuchan, Ladakh.

In 2019 we explored a side valley of the Indus river and encountered the delightful village of Skurbuchan.

Stupas at the entrance to a village often take the form of a gateway so that you walk through the stupa and pass under a mandala painted on the ceiling. This beautiful old mandala was painted on the ceiling of a gateway stupa at Skurbuchan.

We spent the night at our friend's cousin's house. Skurbuchan is in a very scenic setting and was full of delights. The old monastery has a wonderful shrine room - you can watch a video of our short climb to the old monastery here:

A new Padmasambhava statue overlooks the valley and a newer monastery is on the opposite hillside.
