A photo of the geometrical Panna Meena Stepwell at Amer, near Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The geometric steps of the Panna Meena ka Kund stepwell lead down to water level on three sides of the well. Visually it looks like a drawing by the Dutch artist M.C. Escher.
Algae makes the water green, it's no longer drinkable.
A beautiful well that gets a lot of visitors which unfortunately means you're not usually allowed to descend the steps - too dangerous - unless the guard can be bribed.
The photo shows the geometric form of the steps that run down three of the four sides of the well; lifting gear is mounted on the top of the fourth, vertical, face.
