This photo of chortens and distant golden statue of the Buddha was taken at Stok Palace, Ladakh.

Chortens are Buddhist reliquary monuments containing sacred relics and ashes. In India they are known as stupas, in Tibet, chortens. The Buddha statue is near the entrance to the Stok valley. Stok is the seat of the one time Royal family of Leh, Ladakh and the some of the chortens here still contain ashes of the Royal family.
