A photo of golden sandstone balconies & latticed windows at Jaisalmer Fort, Rajasthan.
Jaisalmer is the most westerly of the great fort cities of Rajasthan. Further west lies the sand dunes of Sam and beyond that the border with Pakistan. Jaisalmer Fort dates back to the 12th century when it was on a great trading route. Built from a beautiful golden sandstone it almost disappears into the desert as the light fades at dusk.
It is surrounded by massive curved walls which you enter through a complex series of huge wooden gates. The walk along the parapets of the walls is entrancing - this photo is taken from the walls looking back into the fort at the tightly packed houses with elaborate balconies and latticed windows.
Square format.
