This 18th century well is next to the Raas Hotel in the centre of Jodhpur & overlooked by the new Stepwell Café
Built in 1740 by the local maharani and featured in the ‘Best Marigold Hotel’ film.
Jodhpur has a sophisticated system of underground water tanks and conduits but it was left to an individual eco warrior, Rajesh Joshi, to clean out and restore this well from decades of neglect.
People come to pray here and feed the fish - and the local boys use it for swimming and diving.
