Red Sari at the Loti ni Vav stepwell, Loteshwar | Stepwell Photos
A red sari is reflected in the water as a woman descends the steps of the Loti ni vav stepwell.
Some stepwells have one flight of steps, others have two, three or even - like the Loti ni vav - four. A beautiful stepwell below a fort on a side road as you drive from Dhrangadhra to Patan, the Loti ni Vav is a small well in a tight space and it's difficult to capture the whole construction in a single photograph.
The water is clean and the stepwell is in use as a place to come and bathe or or simply rinse the dust from your hands and face. It's also a place for offerings and flower petals; rice and incense had been left on some of the flat ledges above the water.
