Roaring Tiger Stepwell, Bundi, Rajasthan

A delightful step well, one of many in the beautiful small Rajasthani town of Bundi

The well is dry but well-maintained; you can see small piles of dust on the steps where the morning sweeper has been.

The well has three open stepped sides with a vertical pavilion on the fourth side. The entrance is flanked by two chattri, dedicated to the women who performed sati after the deaths of their husbands. In spite of this grim reminder of now-outlawed practices, this is a very beautiful and open stepwell.
