Sagar Kund in Black & White, Bundi | Stepwell Photos
There are two identical stepwells called Sagar Kund, side by side in Bundi market square.
The Sagar Kund stepwells are in the style that looks like an inverted stepped pyramid. They are very deep wells with one sheer vertical side and steep steps descending down the other three sides.
The bottom of both is littered with rubbish and empty of water. So in that sense they can be rather disappointing but this photo of the geometry of the steps shows the texture of the stone and their original splendour.
The Sagar Kund stepwells are particularly vertiginous and you can only marvel at the effort and skill involved in digging out such a deep, steep hole through the bedrock and lining it with such beautiful and precise stone work.
