Waiting for breakfast at Luri Gompa, I took this portrait of the young monk who'd been our companion.

We reached remote Luri Gompa (Monastery) by trekking up a side valley from the Kali Gandaki river in Upper Mustang, Nepal. The expected patch of ground that was to be our campsite had been turned into a small building site that would eventually house visiting lamas. We settled for sleeping in the ancient prayer hall surrounded by dark and dramatic paintings from the Tibetan Wheel of Life.

This young monk had been our companion and shown us to an old chapel high up on the hillside. We played luminous frisbee with the the two young monks and the lama but Luri sits on the edge of a steep cliff and the frisbee kept overshooting down into the ravine.
