Small Indian oil lamp with an image of the Buddha
Small vintage brass tea light holders from India decorated with the Buddha and two elephants.
Delightful oil lamp with a small embossed Buddha statue in meditation posture flanked by two elephants with trunks raised in salutation. Made from brass with good detailing.
In India and Nepal you'll find hundreds of oil lamps in monasteries and temples. In the regions of Tibetan Buddhism they'd traditionally be filled with ghee or yak butter and give off a smoky flame with a very characteristic odour - the smell of Tibet!
Nowadays they're more likely to be filled with vegetable oil.
To use at home we'd suggest a tea light!
These oil lamps are unique pieces, each one is slightly different. The small Buddha statue at the centre varies slightly from piece to piece.
