Colourful Afghan Tasseled Tent Hanging
A vintage tent hanging from Afghanistan with brightly coloured threads.
If you were a nomad living in a tent in Afghanistan, hangings like this would decorate the inside of the tent.
Long lengths of wool - or possibly acrylic yarn - have been tightly bound with coloured bands of cotton to make this decorative wallhanging that was originally used to decorate the inside of a tent in Afghanistan.
It could also have been used as a decorative camel trapping.
We have shown it simply hanging down straight but it will also open out like a fan, wider at the bottom.
Mid 20th century, part of a collection assembled in the 1970's.
Dimensions: 150cm long
