Ganesh Engraving on Palm Leaf | Indian Folk Art
A delightful small engraving of the Hindu god Ganesh on panels of palm leaf.
This work originates in Orissa (now Odisha) and shows Ganesh with two mice, one at his foot in the usual position, the other peaking out from the serpent that Ganesh wears as a kind of necklace.
Ganesh is sitting on a throne and surrounded by a decorative archway. In his four hands he holds a noose to hold on to his goal, a goad to prompt himself towards enlightenment, an axe cut off worldly attachments. His fourth hand holds his broken tusk representing the sacrifice need to attain wisdom.
