Gaya Kund Stepwell, Pushkar | Stepwell Photos
People come from all over Rajasthan to bathe at Gaya Kund.
Gaya Kund is a small rectangular stepped tank by the road heading north from Pushkar. Regular steps in a pale stone lead down all four sides to clear water; there is shade from trees around three sides.
Gaya Kund is a special place where people come to bathe in a ritual that symbolises rebirth. After bathing the old clothes are left by the side of the well and and exchanged for new clothes.
People also bring old statues of Hindu deities to leave here. Often they'll be old broken images but not all; we saw some fine marble Ganesh statues scattered among piles of discarded clothes.
