Two elephants sit on the ground while their trunks rise up and change into the branches of trees.
A strange, though very typical Gond painting of two seated elephants, one drawn in black ink, the other painted in red & purple, beneath a tree. Nothing too strange so far but the elephants trunks (striped in blue and green) subdivide and become the branches of the tree which otherwise is drawn with black ink. Three birds hover above the tree.
The idea of animal and tree forms being part of the same force of nature is typical of the Gond artists who paint the world as they experience it living in the forests of central India.
