Images from Beyond Kailash
Through Western Tibet to Mt Kailash & Tsaparang.
Images from Beyond Kailash: square format 18x18cm hardback book: 116 pages of photos with captions; 105 photos, mostly full colour, £50. Also available as PDF £9.
In 2014 Silk Road director Peter Bennion (Mahaprasara) travelled through Western Tibet to Mt Kailash & the ruins of the ancient Kingdom of Gu-ge. This self published book, available in several printed formats & PDF, is a narrated photographic account of that journey.
Gu-ge is where Atisha revived Buddhism in Tibet in the 11th Century. It is the location Tholing monastery & the deserted citadel of Tsaparang - places described by Lama Govinda in the Tibet travel classic "The Way of the White Clouds".
The Buddhist art at Tholing & Tsaparang was mostly destroyed in China's Cultural Revolution in the 1960's but this book describes encounters & the journey across Western Tibet, the pilgrimage around Mt Kailash & the remains of the temples of Gu-ge - it is a unique contemporary document of this remote part of Tibet.
