Indergarh Baoli no 2, Rajasthan | Stepwell Photos
A photo of Indergarh Baoli stepwell number 2 in Rajasthan.
Late in the afternoon, driving to Bundi, we were searching for a spectacular stepwell that we never found. Local people said it was a long way from a track, lost in the jungle and hard to find.
We backtracked to Indergarh where we knew there were two small and neglected wells that we'd bipassed. A good decision - both wells were being restored, water had been pumped out, silt removed, trees cleared and masonry rebuilt, albeit with some use of concrete.
I love this little well, on its way back to its former glory. When we arrived the villagers had downed tools for the day and were relaxing on the pavilion. I was delighted to see a ruined and neglected well being restored by the local community.
Across the road another, smaller, well had also been restored.
