Maroon & White Ajrakh Indian Bedspread

Regular price £85.00

A beautiful deep maroon Ajrakh print Indian bedspread on a white background with a deep border.

This striking bedspread is hand block printed using the Ajrakh technique, one of the oldest methods of printing fabrics in India. It originated in Sind thousands of years ago and is now mainly practised in the state of Gujarat in north west India. Wooden blocks are used to create the patterns in a complex process that uses natural dyes and involves up to 14 stages of washing and dying. This bedspread is entirely shades of the same madder dye used in different intensity. Madder is extracted from the plant of the same name.

This heavier weight bedspread comprises two layers of cotton stitched together using lines of maroon and white kantha stitching, which can be clearly seen on the plain border and reverse. Turn the reverse side over at the top for a pleasing effect.

Size: King size approx 220x270cm. In India this is called a double bedspread. It is suitable for double, king size and super king beds.

Cold machine wash with non-bio detergents.
