Nahar Dhoos ki Baoli Stepwell 2, Bundi, Rajasthan

Regular price £25.00

Photo of the lower levels of the Nahar Dhoos ki Baoli Stepwell at Bundi, Rajasthan.

A beautiful and very elegant stepwell in pale coloured stone, showing the lower level of steps that lead down to the water.

An active place of worship with Shiva tridents and orange shapes with silver tridents painted on the walls.

Below the main steps and the fluted archway the final vertiginous steps lead down like an inverted zigurrat to the water.

The person who commissioned this well was cremated here and there is a shrine to his memory before the final descent. The caretaker told us that all wishes will be granted to those who offer puja here. This photo was taken in February 2017. On a second visit a year later I cracked my head on a low lintel and sustained a bloody but trivial headwound.
