Plum Ajrakh Printed Indian Bedspread

Regular price £85.00

A beautiful deep plum Ajrakh print Indian bedspread with a deep border.

This heavier weight bedspread is hand block printed using the Ajrakh technique, one of the oldest methods of printing fabrics in India. It is now mainly practised by the Khatri community in the state of Gujarat. Wooden blocks are used to create the patterns in a complex process that uses natural dyes and involves up to 14 stages of washing and dying. This bedspread is predominantly shades of madder, a red dye extracted from the plant of the same name. The deep plum border has probably been achieved by mixing a touch of indigo with the madder.

The reverse side has lines of plum & white kantha stitching against plain maroon cotton. Turn the reverse side over at the top for a pleasing effect.

Size: King size approx 220x270cm. In India this is called a double bedspread. It is suitable for double, king size and super king beds.

Cold machine wash with non-bio detergents.
