Rain & Haveli Interior, Nawalgarh | Photos of India
A wide angle photo of a beautiful courtyard and balcony in Nawalgarh, Shekawati district of Rajasthan.
Shekawati is a quiet region of small dusty towns and villages just north of Jaipur where rich Indian merchants who traded with the East India Company built their havelis, large family houses. They are famous for their painted frescoes. Nowadays the families rarely reside there but keep the havelis for grand family occasions. Some of the havelis are maintained by a caretaker who may let you see inside.
In Shekawati we like to stay with Rajesh at his Tourist Pension in Nawalgarh, a delightful place to stay that I'd heartily recommend. Rajesh is an excellent local guide and he showed us this beautiful haveli with its elegant painted columns and colourful stone tiles floors. And then it rained.
