Scarlet & Indigo Ajrakh Print Indian Bedspread
A rich scarlet & light blue Ajrakh print Indian bedspread with traditional patterns & a deep border.
This heavier weight bedspread comprises two layers of cotton stitched together using lines of red and white kantha stitching. It is hand printed using traditional Ajrakh techniques that date back 4500 years. Ajrakh originated in the Sind region and is now mainly practised in the state of Gujarat, India. Wooden blocks are used to create the patterns in a complex process that uses natural dyes and up to 14 stages. The dyes used in this bedspread are madder (red), indigo (blue) and ochre (brown, the result of manganese oxides in the clay).
The reverse side has lines of red & white kantha stitching against the deep red cotton. Turn the reverse side over at the top for a pleasing effect.
Size: King size approx 220x270cm. In India this is called a double bedspread. It is suitable for double, king size and super king beds.
