Sepia & Madder Ajrakh Indian Bedspread
A beautiful soft indigo & madder red Indian bedspread with a complex Ajrakh print & deep border.
Ajrakh is one of the oldest techniques for printing fabrics in India. Wooden blocks are used to create the patterns in a complex process that uses natural dyes and involves many stages. The background ochre is from a natural clay earth pigment that has been used for thousands of years, while the red is produced from madder, a perennial plant of the coffee family. The hand block printing means that no two bedspreads are ever exactly the same.
This is a heavier weight bedspread with two layers of cotton fabric stitched together with rows of fine running stitches known as kantha. The reverse side more clearly shows the lines of ivory & red kantha stitching against plain ochre cotton. Turn the reverse side over at the top for a pleasing effect.
Size: King size approx 220x270cm. In India this is called a double bedspread. It is suitable for double, king size and super king beds.
Cold machine wash with non-bio detergents.
