Soapstone Buddha, Teaching Mudra
A small soapstone statue of the Buddha with hand raised in the teaching mudra.
If you look closely you'll see that the thumb is raised to meet the index finger in the hand gesture, or mudra, of teaching the Dharma.
In this mudra, the thumb and index fingers touch, creating a circle that symbolizes an uninterrupted flow of wisdom. The other three fingers point up towards the heavens with the palm facing outward. This hand is held near the heart.
