This unusual piece of Indian furniture is a carved wooden dowry chest.

A rustic wooden dowry chest with a triangular profiled top section made from a richly coloured dark wood. It is deeply carved with round medallions containing either complex geometric patterns or concentric circles.

Panels of wood have been secured together with small nails through iron bands that decorate the design. There is an opening in the top section once occupied with a hinged lid.

It stands on four small turned wooden legs.
