A lovely old carved wooden Indian dowry box with three drawers and an internal hinged compartment.
There are several decorative metal features on the box in addition to metal handles on each end, a metal clasp and two long hinges which open the lid.
Dowry is still part of the Indian wedding tradition and a dowry box like this would be used to keep jewellery and special embroidered fabrics.
