White Kutch Appliqued Indian Bedspread
A white cut work cotton bedspread from Barmer, Rajasthan.
A beautiful Indian bedspread hand made by the skilled women of Barmer deep in the Thar desert of western Rajasthan near the border with Kutch.
Intricate cutwork panels of white cotton on calico create a sublime design that is enlivened by small rust coloured embroidered stitches.
The bedspreads are made by an organisation that develops the skills of local women and ensures they receive appropriate payment for their work. They also provide health care and schooling for the children. We were delighted to meet them on a recent trip to India, they were equally delighted that we loved their work!
The last two photos show the reverse side of the bedspread, equally delightful!
Shown on a king size upholstered walnut Togo bed from the Natural Bed Company.
