Eleven Trees Palm Leaf Etching from Odisha
A Tala Pattachitra etching from Odisha with eleven beautiful images of trees.
A fine etching tool is used to carve into the palm leaf which is then wiped with an inked cloth; the excess is then wiped off. The black ink is traditionally made from lamp black.
Etching on palm leaf has a long tradition in Odisha (previously known as Orissa) on the eastern side of India. In fact recording script and images on palm leaf probably predates the use of paper.
