The stepwell is inside a Hanuman temple in a dusty square on the edge of a small village on the outskirts of the beautiful town of Orchha.
Orchha is in the centre of India in the state of Madhya Pradesh. We were there on a quick day visit from Gwalior but the town itself deserves more time. The deserted Royal Palace and the riverside Cenotaphs are nearby.
