The story behind this season's printed cotton PJ's began in Jaipur in February 2025.

Jaipur, 25th February: we're in a fabric warehouse surrounded by a huge collection of printed cottons. We're here to select fabrics for this season's pyjamas and robes. We'll also choose some fabrics for new designs of cotton filled bed quilts.

How to choose? There are three of us trying to narrow down the selections and we all pull in slightly different directions. Not surprisingly, we're familiar with each other's tastes; we've worked together for a long time. Kay has the best overview of which colours and patterns have worked well in the past so we use that information while also trying to find new directions.

I'm hoping to find a print with a Japanese influence but in the final cut these two don't make the selection.

We've had robes made from a similar print to this in previous years but we for this season we decide to keep the same print in but with a navy, rather than black, background. Both colours are dramatic, we'd happily select both but we also pick the white background. And for good measure a soft jade option.

Still searching for a "Japanese" theme we find this beautiful fabric printed with the beautiful birds called black necked cranes. Black neck cranes are regarded as sacred birds that migrate from the high altitude landscapes of Tibet and Ladakh to winter in the lower altitudes of Bhutan. Their arrival in late October and early November is regarded by Buddhists in Bhutan as an auspicious sign, a blessing.

On the same day we selected printed cottons for two new designs of cotton filled quilts - wonderful lightweight summer quilts which are also a beautiful extra layer in winter. They are reversible; the same print is on both sides but in a different colour.
