Kanji village is beautiful in the late afternoon light. The houses here seem to have grown out of the landscape and many are crumbling back into that same landscape.
One of those days where things don't go to plan. The paths are blocked by rockfalls, progress is slow, we finish the last three hours by the light of iPhones and arrive several hours after sunset.
We leave our camp above Gyal village and trek over the Sarbantan La and the Yoma La on the first two days of our three day trek to the village of Kanji.
Shadows are lengthening by the time we arrive and it promises to be a cold night. The people here look more Tibetan than Ladakhi, faces are broad with sunburnt red cheeks and Tibetan eyes.
