One of those days where things don't go to plan. The paths are blocked by rockfalls, progress is slow, we finish the last three hours by the light of iPhones and arrive several hours after sunset.
We leave our camp above Gyal village and trek over the Sarbantan La and the Yoma La on the first two days of our three day trek to the village of Kanji.
Shadows are lengthening by the time we arrive and it promises to be a cold night. The people here look more Tibetan than Ladakhi, faces are broad with sunburnt red cheeks and Tibetan eyes.
I'm acting as postman to take some gold and maroon wool cloth to Delhi where eventually it will get picked up and delivered to the Tibetan Karmapa Lama to be used for the seat of his throne.
At www.himalaya-diaries.co.uk you can link to a travel diary with photographs of our treks through Zanskar, Ladakh, Spiti, Mustang and Tibet - including our 2014 pilgrimage trek around Mt Kailash.
