This painting of Green Tara is in wayside shrine in the Leh valley, Ladakh.
Green Tara is a popular Bodhisattva of Compassion and often represented in shrines in Ladakh. One hand holds a lotus flower; the other hand reaches down to help beings suffering in Samsaric existence.

It is said she grew from the tears of Avalokiteshvara, the other Bodhisattva of Compassion painted in the wayside shrines of Ladakh.
The background blue colour has the vibrant colour of lapis.

Several paths weave up through the Leh Valley and are dotted with wayside shrines.
