Here you can preview the entire book and order a PDF edition, published by Blurb. A 128-page hardcover version is available for purchase through Blurb or, for a signed copy, directly from the author at the Silk Road Gallery. Other formats are also available, and selected photographs from the journey can be found in the Photographs Collection.

Gu-ge holds historical significance as the place where Atisha revitalized Buddhism in Tibet during the 11th century. It is home to Tholing Monastery and the abandoned citadel of Tsaparang, sites vividly described by Lama Govinda in The Way of the White Clouds, a classic Tibetan travel memoir.
Though much of the Buddhist art at Tholing and Tsaparang was destroyed during China’s Cultural Revolution in the 1960s, this book captures the essence of a journey through Western Tibet, the sacred pilgrimage around Mt Kailash, and the remnants of Gu-ge’s once-magnificent temples. It stands as a rare contemporary account of this remote and historically rich region.

Landscape format 10”x8” 128 pages.
