Broken Bodhisattva Statue at Tholing | Buddha Photos of Tibet

Regular price £25.00

Photo of a broken Bodhisattva statue at Tholing Monastery in Tibet.

In this poignant photograph from Tholing monastery in Far Western Tibet, the legs are all that remain of a painted Bodhisattva statue destroyed in the destruction of the Cultural Revolution. Tholing and nearby Tsaparang were the centres of the ancient 12th century Buddhist kingdom of Guge.

The statue is standing between two stupas that were also destroyed and their contents burned.

The Chinese government is replacing all the old Tibetan place names with Chinese names, so if you look on the map Tholing is now called Zanda.
