Tibetan Thangka Painting of the Wheel of Life

Regular price £150.00

A finely executed painting of the Bhavachakra, the Tibetan Wheel of Life.

The Wheel of Life is a complex, dramatic and important image in Tibetan Buddhism. It is seen in the entrance lobby of most Monasteries in Tibet and Ladakh and depicts the six realms of existence. Yama, the Lord of Impermanence grasps the wheel in his claws. Symbolically we can find ourselves passing fleetingly through all these realms in a single day.

Painted on a dark reddish brown background; probably Nepalese, painted in 2002, bought in Ladakh in 2022.

Dimensions: W43 H56cm
