Lamayuru Monastery | Photos of Ladakh

In this photo Lamayuru monastery is set against the dramatic hills of Ladakh.

Perched on a rock escarpment above the valley, Lamayuru is one of the most dramatic sights as you travel from Leh along the Indus valley and then continue along the road towards Kargil.

The landscape is equally dramatic. Before the more recent advent of roads into the mountains, Lamayuru was the classic place to start the trek south into Zanskar with, for us, ended at Karsha monastery. 

This photo of a statue of Vajrasattva was taken inside one of the prayer rooms at Lamayuru.
